Bless their hearts, her son and daughter have been after her to upgrade to a least a newer model used car. They worry about her, what if it leaves you stranded, they say? She gives them the same answer time and again. Then I’ll walk to a client’s and make a phone call to come get me, she would laugh. Jody lives and works within a few mile radius of her home. Five days a week she visits home patients and monitors their medication inventory and asks routine questions and reports back to their physicians, many of which are heart patients.

The social visit is what she calls them because her belief is that her one half hour chat with them each week is more healing then their medications. They crave a little personal conversation and look forward to their ‘Jody’ time each week. “How’s the heart mobile treating you,” they would always ask? “Just like yours, it got us through another week,” then laughter.

It does have a lot of dings and scrapes just from neighborhood street activity of thrown Frisbee’s, baseball overthrows and errant scooters and bicycles getting too close when parked in front of her apartment complex. It looked sad on the outside but her heart mobile was happy on the inside she would always say when comments about time to be putting her down were made by her neighbors.

Jody was looking forward to the weekend. Two days of apartment dwelling with no intentions of going out. Catching up on reading, some housekeeping and a visit from her children on Sunday.

The weekend was refined, children visits were a blessing and Monday morning arrived and she was eager to begin her visiting week. What she wasn’t ready for was a throng of people standing all around her parking spot. When they parted, her old heart mobile was covered in the most beautiful and striking 3D like domed hearts. Her children were standing there and her neighbors, people were taking photos with their cell phones and all she could think about was “what did they do to my heart?” Applause and a note on the windshield gave full explanation. Jody got used to the many stares she received, the humorous stunt turned out to be one of the cutest promotional campaigns for what her life is all about. TV stations and newspapers have told her story countless times. She has to turn down interviews, her clients are far too important to her.
